What
is Cursillo?
Cursillo is a Spanish word meaning
"little" or "short course." The Cursillo is an encounter with Christ.
The goal of Cursillo is to have Christ be the prime influence in your life
and in society. It proposes no new type of spirituality, but simply a method
through which one's spirituality may be developed, lived, and shared in
any area of human life.

Who
started Cursillo?
Well, God started it but Cursillo
began in Mallorca, Spain in the Roman Catholic church. The Cursillo of
January 7, 1949 is usually considered to be the first. It was brought to
the United States by Spanish airmen training in Corpus Christi, Texas.
A few years after it took root in the US the first English Cursillo in
the United States was held at Our Lady of Guadelupe Monastery, a Benedictine
Abbey just outside of Pecos, New Mexico. The first Cursillo in the US was
in Spanish, and was held in Waco, Texas on May 25, 1957.

Are
all 3 Day Movements and weekends the same?
Most 3 Day Movements follow the
same pattern as Cursillo however there is diversity because of the denomination
or who the participants are. Each movement has it's own Stardards
and rules.

question list
What
happens during a 3 Day Weekend?
Generally, it begins on Thursday
evening and ends the following Sunday night. During these three days those
attending live and work together listening to talks given by pastors and
laity. They also share Communion and pray together. The title of the talks
indicate their content: Ideal, Grace, Laity, Faith, Piety, Study, the Sacraments,
Action, Obstacles to a life of Grace, Leaders, Evangelization of the Environment,
Christian Life, Christian Community, and Group Reunion. Each talk is followed
by a discussion period.

The time immediately following
the Three Days of Cursillo is known as the Fourth Day. The Fourth Day encompasses

What
is a Ultreya, Palanca,....etc...?
Ultreya:

cursillistas in an area that is the visible Christian community of the
Cursillo.
Group Reunion

who hold each other accountable for their spiritual journey
Palanca

run smoothly and help participants and team members focus on God.
There is personal Palanca which can be letters and prayers for the participants,
there is general Palanca which can be food or any type of donated help
to make the weekend work. These things given unconditionally to the
weekend.

Fourth Day:
Well, that's every single day after
your weekend, whether Emmaus, Cursillo, Chrysalis, Via De Christo, whichever.
Participant = Person who
is going though a Cursillo
Cursillista = Person who has gone through Cursillo
Rector/a = Weekend Leader
Spiritual Director = Pastor
Clausura = Closing
Mananitas:
A popular song sung early in the
morning
De Colores
It is simply a children song which
was popular during the early days of the Cursillo Movement based on a Spanish
folk song that was sung at the first Cursillo. Many people have come
to adopt it to mean a state of grace that we are in and that this grace
is available to everybody (De Colores=The Colors)
Back to the
question list
What's
the deal with the Rooster??????
Well............I guess it has
to do with the song DeColores. There's a part that talks about the
chickens and the roosters clucking around. The rooster has beautiful
colored feathers. Since the song was sung by the first Cursillistas
after their bus broke down and they had to walk a gazillion miles singing
this song, and the rooster is one of the symbols that represents the
DeColores song , it stuck. Now SOME
people think it's silly to have a rooster as a symbol of a Christian organization.
If you want THEIR version of what happened
that day of the first Cursillo when the bus broke down, I'll E-Mail it
to you.
